Six Sentence Sunday

“I love you,” he repeated. Maybe she hadn’t heard him the first time? He’d give anything to be able to read her mind then.

“Sorry, I have to take a moment to process this,” she said. Their eyes met, and he could now see the tears she was holding back. He wanted to wipe them away, but he didn’t want to over step his boundaries.

Sweet Saturday Sample

Genre: Fantasy

NOTE: Rough Edit

She walked three more blocks North and entered a small park with a playground. Though she wouldn’t call it much of a playground since it only consisted of one yellow, plastic tube slide, and a swing. Kat crawled into the slide and curled up inside, propping herself into the first curve. Ten or so minutes later, and she could hear footsteps approaching.

“Are you in here?” Matthias’s voice echoed into the slide.

“Yeah,” She said.

The slide rocked slightly as he climbed the stairs to the top entrance. “I’m coming down.”

With a lot of clunks and thuds, Matt was some how able to manage a slow enough speed so that he didn’t plow into her on his way down. He only tripped slightly, his arm briefly going over her body as he braced himself to stop. Then he secured herself and settled on simply holding her hand in his own.

“They didn’t hurt you did they?” He asked.

“No, I got out of the house before they could think about it. I’ve learned to bail once the yelling starts.” She gave him a weak smile.

“They won’t when you come back?”

“No, I’m sure they’ll move on with their lives before then. If anything, they’ll be mad I bothered to come back to begin with. I wouldn’t if I had another place to go.”

“Someday you will.” He nudged her playfully and almost popped her out of position.

“Someday isn’t soon enough.”

His hand squeezed hers, and she felt nothing but safe. “I bet you the Elite will come asking for you to join them any day now.”

“I hope so. Tell me about them again?” She’d heard rumors about them, but Matt seemed to have some kind of inside source. He could have been lying to her to make her feel better though. She doubted it, simply because it wasn’t necessary for him to do. Either way, it was fun for her to dream.

“About the Elite?”

She nodded.

“They’re called the Elite because they are the most beautiful and powerful women in all of Inero. Chosen at a young age, they go on to marry important men, have great influence on the city, and are some of the most admired creatures on the planet. An Elite never has to worry about being safe or about having enough. She is perfection.”

“You think I’m perfect?” She asked.

“I know you are.”

This Week’s Six!

With one small hand gesture, a bright, white, flame
appeared in Etz’s hand. He held the flame in front of his brother’s
face, his face dark and determined as he showed the man the true
power of his magic.
“This is me threatening you,” Etz stated. “We will be wed. If
not by you, then another. But not until after I make you regret it.”

This is from “Legend of the Aero Dragon” which can be found in Matrimonial Mayhem, and is a continuation of the Dragon’s Saga.

Other Dragon’s Saga books:

The Dragon’s Saga: Legend of the Oceina Dragon.

The Dragon’s Saga: Legend of the Oceina Dragon:Darien Oceina is the youngest son of the Great Dragon Lord of the Water. For years he¹s loved and cherished Tai Dawson from afar. Tai is a simple, ordinary girl who doesn¹t even know Darien exists. On his eighteenth birthday, he chooses her as his wife. But there’s one problem: She thinks his choice means she¹s going to be offered as a sacrifice to the Dragon Lord, but instead, she’s forced to move to his home, far away, to give up her life and be his bride.

When she first sees Darien after the ceremony, she doesn’t expect to feel anything but hatred toward him. The two are struggling with the complications of a new marriage when their nation is attacked by a rival dragon species. Together they learn to love one another while they struggle to stay one step ahead in a game where the prize is their survival.

My Six!:

“Because whether I chose this or not, we’re
going to always be a part of each others lives now. I don’t think
pretending it didn’t happen is the solution. I can still hear
everything inside of you, and I can’t tune it out.” She moved closer
to him nervously. “I’m willing to at least see what we are by the
end of the summer. I can’t promise anything, but at the most I can
say I’ve gotten to know you.”

You could win this!

Okay, so it’s been a long, long, time since I’ve done a contest. There’s a reason for that: I’ve been putting together an epic prize.

Contents:

1 Dragon Webkinz

1 Authentic hand made Chinese fan

1 Notebook

1 copy of Wreck This Journal

1 set of Hello Kitty gel pens

1 Signed copy of “Legend of the Oceina Dragon” (not pictured)

1 Dragon sillyband (also not pictured)

So how do you win?  It’s easy. This is going to be a typical follower/comment contest.

You get 1 entry for:

* Following me on twitter (+1 if you already follow me).

* Tweeting about this contest.

(copy this tweet and link to the post: I want a prize pack from @jfjenkinstweets!)

* Subscribing to this blog.

* commenting this post, telling me how many entries you have!

No points will be given for Facebook ‘likes’ due to their TOS, but those are always welcome none the less.  Same thing with likes on Amazon, as well as a “dragons”, “ya”, or other appropriate tags on my book. ;)

So you can have a total of four entries (five if you’ve been following for a while).

Here’s what makes it even BETTER. If say, 50 people enter? I’ll put together ANOTHER prize pack. Another 50 after that and I’ll another prize. Basically, every 50 people I’ll add some kind of additional prize. Also, everyone who enters automatically gets a personalized letter from me, and a fantasy sillyband. So no matter what, you’re a winner in some way shape or form!

This is gonna run until the 15th of July, so you have two weeks to spread the word and get yourself entered.

Go go go!!!!!

It’s that time again!  Here are my six:

“I picked now because the city is quiet. Everyone is sleeping, but should we happen to be spied on, this will look a lot like a date. Especially in about five minutes when the sun rises.”

“A date? I didn’t think you were interested in those.”

“I’m not,” he said perhaps a little too quickly.

This is a rough unedited snippet from the sequel to my book “Legend of the Oceina Dragon”.

Why I love….

June 23, 2011 by J. F. Jenkins | Edit

This week, the topic for Why I Love was “movies based on a book”. This is tough for me because I’m one of those weird people who usually sees the movie before reading the book. I don’t know why I do this, but I do for whatever reason. There are a lot of movies I enjoy based on books. I love the Harry Potter series for example. For the most part, I think the movies are well done. I also have my film school stuff working with me though, so I understand things about cutting information, etc. etc. so I tend to not get super freaked out by things being left out. No, they aren’t perfect by any means, but I enjoy them.

However, one of my favorite movies based on a book is….

The Witches, by Roald Dahl.

I don’t think I can remember a movie that still impacts me so much. It’s dark, it’s deep, and it’s actually still kind of scary. It more or less petrified me as a child, but in a good way. Plus I think it got me out of bath time. ;) What I loved though, was the way the movie was so well cast, the visuals were perfect with the children turning into the mice and the anamatronics. It’s just a great movie to go with a great story. There were only a few small changes to the story, but they were so minor it didn’t make much of an impact.

If you haven’t seen this movie, I highly recommend it. Though I wouldn’t watch it with really young ones because like most of Dahl’s work, it is twisted.

Ack!

June 23, 2011 by J. F. Jenkins | Edit

Okay, so I have about four weeks of “Wreck This!” to share with you on my phone. Unfortunately I’m not on my computer so I’m having so issues with getting things loaded up and all of this other technological mumbo jumbo. I’m going to post it tomorrow, along with my “Why I Love” response. Keep your eyes peeled!

What else? I’m writing up a storm still, and I still haven’t forgotten about my “if it fits in a box I’m going to ship it” contest. I told myself I would do it as a reward for finishing Dragons 2. Well, now I’m going to run the contest July 1st regardless of if I’m finished or not. Why? Because I think you all have been waiting for long enough. It’ll probably be one of those cliche’ “Follower” things, but we’ll see. I’ll try to keep it as basic as possible for everyone. Then I’ll let you all in on the multitude of goodies going into said box o’ goodies. Here’s a hint: dragons and chocolate. It’s going to be good.

This is a very on the fly progress report. I have a lot of writing to do today and a some what limited window of opportunity to do it in. I need lots of luck and kudos today, or I doubt I’ll survive it. I can do this! I’ll be checking in with you again soon.

FIVE – THE PROPOSAL

Gavin “Tinsel” Thompson

I unlock the door, and usher Petey into the condo. I’m so happy to be home again. After Marit got into her fight with Dad, I decided it best to slip out unnoticed. Mom helped me pack up the diaper bag and came up with a good excuse for me to leave without Dad taking it out on me. He has a tendency to do that after he fights with Marit. Dad fights with her so much, it makes his drama with the rest of us kids fall under the radar. For the most part, but he still always has time for a jab at me of course.

“So how was dinner?” Andy asks. He’s laying on the couch playing X-Box. He pauses the game because it’s Call of Duty, which is a violent game, and we don’t play violent games in front of Petey.

I laugh sourly and make the classic shooting my brains out hand gesture, ending with a loud POW. Naturally, Petey thinks this is hilarious and giggles before going to run after one of the cats and mimicing the sound repeatedly.

“POW! And POW! And POW!”

I sigh, smiling as I watch him. Time to let him burn off some energy. It’s still a little bit early before bed and the excitement of being at Grandma and Grandpa’s takes a little while to fade. He loves his grandparents and they love him. As much crap as my dad gives me about how I’m raising him, he also adores him. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Dad’s eyes light up the same way as when he’s playing with Peter from anything else. He tries to be discrete of course. Heaven forbid his reputation of being a hard ass get smashed.

The great nation Oceina. Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll be covering this amazing country and people. Today I am starting with the beautiful Oceina City.

Oceina City is the capital of the country, and home to many of the booming businesses. The Oceina people are highly technologically advanced. They pride themselves in their innovation, but still hold fast to the values of the home. The political system of the humans is a democracy, where as with the dragons are like a democracy mixed with a monarchy. There’s a head family, but the decisions are made and voted on by the elected/appointed officials as a whole.

The great city of Oceina is home to around 10 million people, or slightly more than Los Angeles. Their primary export is technology and fish. There are a number of beautiful skyscrapers accenting and highlighting the natural areas of the land instead of hiding them. Below is a picture of Dubai, but this amazing city is similar to how I’d always imagined Oceina City looking.
